6 Reasons You need an Inpatient Treatment Center
Many people discuss the reasons for treatment without actually talking about why you would need a specific type of treatment. Some types of treatment have definite benefits over the others and which you choose depends on your circumstances. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, not all treatment types work for all people. There are reasons why someone would specifically need inpatient treatment. A few of these reasons are obvious while others are not.
1. Other Methods Failed
One of the main reasons why people resort to inpatient treatment is because they have tried other methods and failed. Inpatient treatment because of its isolation is sometimes the last resort for some people. They choose to seclude themselves for the less pleasant portions of detox and withdrawal.
2. You Want Privacy
Most impatient treatment centers offer absolute privacy. Some occupations and addictions require complete privacy. Because of the stigma of drug addiction, some people cannot afford to be seen as drug users. Occupations such as:
- police officers,
- judges,
- government officials,
- high profile executives, and
- other people who cannot be seen as drug users.
Since there still is a stigma behind addiction, some people feel inpatient care helps to protect their privacy.
3. Inpatient Addiction Treatment is Sometimes More Successful
According to the National Library of Medicine, the success rate of inpatient treatment is higher than other treatments when taken alone. Ideally program combining both inpatient and outpatient treatment has the highest success rate but when taken alone patients are less likely to relapse after treatment. Most of the success is dependent on whether the patient participates in the program.
4. Participation is Absolutely Necessary
As with most treatment programs, you get what you put into it back out of it. Most people who fight the program do not benefit as much as they would if they participated willingly. In inpatient treatment, the treatment schedule is immersive. This immersion only works when a person fully participates in most of the counseling and other activities.
5. You Cannot Quit on Your Own
Most people have tried to quit on their own. They may have even succeeded for a little while. Some people can quit for short periods of time but they usually go back to using without some form of intervention. Most people want to quit but just cannot bring themselves to stay away from their drug of choice. These people need a treatment program. Inpatient treatment might be best for them even if they have tried other programs to quit in the past.
6. You Need Structure
Inpatient treatment is very structured. Many people only do well when their environment is filled with things that they need to do. If they do not have enough to keep them occupied they return to using drugs. Inpatient treatment keeps patients occupied with a variety of antidrug and skill building activities,
